Hello, this is Phone Fix Okinawa!
Today, we’re sharing a repair story about a Galaxy S22 Ultra that a customer brought in.
After getting wet, they followed some advice they found online and put it in a bowl of rice for several days. But instead of fixing it, the situation only got worse…
🚨 A Vicious Cycle! Why Rice is a Bad Idea
Hoping to dry the phone, the customer put it in rice. But rice grains got inside through the SIM tray! When they tried to remove the grains, they bent the crucial metal contact in the tray, making the problem even more serious.
We first replaced the SIM tray. Next, we carefully opened the phone to clean the logic board, but the phone still wouldn’t turn on. After trying a new battery, the phone finally powered up, but the screen was completely frozen.
💡 A Miraculous Revival!
As a last resort, we booted the phone into Recovery Mode and performed a “Wipe Cache Partition.” And just like that—it came back to life!
The customer was so happy, telling us, “I had given up on it…” It was a truly miraculous revival!
⚠️ A Warning About Water Damage
The “put it in rice” method doesn’t fully remove moisture from inside your phone and, as you can see, can cause new problems. If your phone gets wet, turn it off immediately and don’t do anything else. Just bring it to professionals like us!
